The student will be paid $200 per monthly trim of the 3 HOA walking trails during the period May – October, for a maximum of 6 monthly trims, totaling $1,200 for the year. The walking trails are to be cut to ground level along a 5’ path width. The monthly trims can be done anytime during the month, but not within two weeks of the previous trim (e.g. May 30 for May and June 2 for June). If the student misses a month, the trimming season can be reasonably extended. It is estimated each monthly trim would take about 2 hours to complete because the majority of the trails are already bare ground except for various patches where the weeds do grow high.
The student would be required to:
1) Sign a liability waiver (along with the parents);
2) Have their own health insurance (which they probably already have through their parents);
3) Supply their own equipment (string trimmer & gas);
4) Wear eye protection and appropriate footwear (long pants are also recommended);
5) Notify the BOD when the trails are cut so the work can be verified.
The Board wants to make sure both the student and parents are aware that by their very nature, walking trails have more hazards than simply walking on a sidewalk. The trails consist of uneven earthen pathways that may include such “hazards” as steep slopes; being covered in spots by wet, slippery leaves; have tree roots growing across the paths at ground level; and may contain erosion gullies and mole holes. Both the student and parents should be aware of these possible risks, and accept financial responsibility for any injuries the student may incur.
Of course, there are no penalties if the winner decides not to trim the trails for the entire six month period. Just let the Board know so that other arrangements can be made. On the flipside, if in the unlikely event the student continues to do unsatisfactory work and refuses to follow the Board’s direction, the Board can terminate the agreement without penalty, or pay a lesser monthly amount until the trails are brought to a satisfactory level.
